View of Bellecour square in Lyon, with the equestrian statue of King Louis XIV under a giant inflatable plastic bubble and a ferris wheel, during La Fete des Lumieres 2009, a festival of lights held annually since 1852 on December 8, to celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. The celebration was established as a universal feast in 1476 by Pope Sixtus IV. The illuminated Fourviere basilica can be seen in the background.
